Stadt, Raum und Gesellschaft: Henri Lefebvre und die Theorie der Produktion des Raumes

Henri Lefebvre’s theory of the production of space has gained prominence in social sciences and architecture in recent years. Its significance lies in particular in the fact that it integrates the categories of ‘city’ and ‘space’ into a comprehensive spatio-temporal theory of social practice. However, the reception of this theory has long remained fragmentary and inconsistent, and it has not taken sufficient account of Lefebvre’s central epistemological premises.

Christian Schmid’s book presented for the first time a systematic scientific-theoretical reconstruction of this theory in its contemporary historical and epistemological context. In the its critical appropriation and further development, this book outlines the basic principles of a general analytical framework for interpreting spatio-temporal phenomena and processes. Since its publication in 2005, this book has had a decisive influence on the debate about Lefebvre’s theory in German-speaking countries and beyond.
