Switzerland: An Urban Portrait

This publication from 2005 consisting of three volumes and a map was a sensation at the time and soon became a classic. It was published in three languages and has lost none of its relevance to this day.
The result of several years of research by ETH Studio Basel with four renowned Swiss architects and a sociologist, as well as more than hundred students and assistants, this work analyses the multiple layers and facets of Swiss urban landscapes as well as the urban potentials for the future development of Switzerland. In this way, the research team developed an urban typology: metropolitan regions, networks of cities, quiet zones, Alpine resorts, and Alpine fallowlands.
