Dr. Tobias Baitsch

Tobi­as Baitsch is an archi­tect and urban rese­ar­cher. Gra­dua­ted from ETH Zurich he work­ed in seve­ral offices and as inde­pen­dent prac­ti­tio­ner in Zurich and Paris. He com­ple­ted his PhD under the super­vi­si­on of Luca Pat­ta­ro­ni and Chris­ti­an Schmid and was a doc­to­ral assistant at the Labo­ra­to­ry of Urban Socio­lo­gy at EPFL. Entit­led Incre­men­tal Urba­nism, his doc­to­ral rese­arch exami­ned user dri­ven urba­ni­sa­ti­on pro­ces­ses in Mum­bai, India. 

Tobi­as Baitsch was a visi­ting rese­arch fel­low at the Depart­ment of Geo­gra­phy UCL with a Doc.Mobility sti­pend from the Swiss Natio­nal Sci­ence Foun­da­ti­on and was invol­ved in a rese­arch col­la­bo­ra­ti­on with the School of Habi­tat Stu­dies TISS, Mum­bai on the poli­tics of urban plan­ning. Sin­ce 2015 he lec­tures at EPF Lau­sanne on urba­ni­sa­ti­on in the con­text of popu­la­ti­on growth and limi­t­ed resour­ces. From 2018 to 2020 he was sci­en­ti­fic col­la­bo­ra­tor at the chair of Archi­tec­tu­re and Ter­ri­to­ri­al Plan­ning at ETH Zürich. In 2019 he joi­n­ed the Bern Uni­ver­si­ty of Appli­ed Sci­en­ces, whe­re he beca­me the head of the archi­tec­tu­re divi­si­on in 2022. Sin­ce 2024 is the head of the insti­tu­te for Urba­nism, Archi­tec­tu­re and Construction.
