Dr. Tobias Baitsch
Tobias Baitsch is an architect and urban researcher. Graduated from ETH Zurich he worked in several offices and as independent practitioner in Zurich and Paris. He completed his PhD under the supervision of Luca Pattaroni and Christian Schmid and was a doctoral assistant at the Laboratory of Urban Sociology at EPFL. Entitled “Incremental Urbanism”, his doctoral research examined user driven urbanisation processes in Mumbai, India.
Tobias Baitsch was a visiting research fellow at the Department of Geography UCL with a Doc.Mobility stipend from the Swiss National Science Foundation and was involved in a research collaboration with the School of Habitat Studies TISS, Mumbai on the politics of urban planning. Since 2015 he lectures at EPF Lausanne on urbanisation in the context of population growth and limited resources. From 2018 to 2020 he was scientific collaborator at the chair of Architecture and Territorial Planning at ETH Zürich. In 2019 he joined the Bern University of Applied Sciences, where he became the head of the architecture division in 2022. Since 2024 is the head of the institute for Urbanism, Architecture and Construction.
