Dr. Nitin Bathla
Nitin Bathla is a transdisciplinary researcher working at the intersection of urban planning, political ecology, sociology and the arts. He holds a Doctorate in Urban Studies from ETH Zurich and is currently jointly affiliated with ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich. He is the author of the award-winning book “Researching Otherwise: Pluriversal Methods for Urban and Landscape Studies” and the critically acclaimed documentary film “Not Just Roads”. Nitin serves as an editor for the journal Urban Geography and the Urban Political Podcast, and sits on the editorial boards of the Journal of Urban Political Ecology and Shared Habitats. His research focuses on the political ecology of infrastructures and infrastructure-led urbanisation in South Asia and Switzerland.
Nitin Bathla joined the Chair of Sociology in 2017, when he started his PhD project “Delhi without borders: A critique of everyday life under extended urbanisation”. Since 2022, he has worked as postdoc researcher and lecturer at the chair. He was part of the teaching team for Sociology I & II (2021–2025), and co-taught the following seminars: Henri Lefebvre and the Theory of the Production of Space (Autumn Semester 2022), Agrarian Questions Under Extended Urbanisation (Spring Semesters 2022, 2023, and 2024), and the Urban Methods Seminar (Spring Semesters 2022 and 2023).
