Monika Streule is urban anthropologist and lives in Zürich. She is researching and teaching at the Faculty of Architecture of ETH Zürich. Her research interests enclose social production of space, urbanization processes, and qualitative, critical and reflexive methods of urban studies. After her graduation at the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology of the University of Zürich, conducting a research on social impacts of urban transformation processes in the Mexican historic center, since 2009 she is working for the Faculty of Architecture of ETH Zürich.

In April 2016, she finished her PhD thesis Ethnography of Urban Territories. A Transdisciplinary Analysis of Metropolitan Urbanization Processes in Mexico City. The research is based on two main interests: on the one hand the focus lies on the understanding of the main urbanization processes which shaped the urban mega region of Mexico City in a historical as well as in a contemporary perspective. On the other hand the scope is to develop a transdisciplinary qualitative methodology for this empirical study of the social production of space. The supervisors of the PhD project are Prof. Dr. Christian Schmid (ETH Zürich), Prof. Dr. Kathrin Wildner (HafenCity University Hamburg HCU), and Prof. Dr. Marc Angélil (ETH Zürich).
